Why does my tuner show A3 not A4?
The number is the octave. A3 is one octave below A4: 220 Hz instead of 440 Hz. Each string has a target note — check it before tightening further.
Can I tune without a microphone?
Yes — use reference-tone mode. Play the tone, then match your open string to it by ear. No microphone permission needed.
What is re-entrant tuning?
On a standard ukulele the 4th string (G) is tuned higher than the 3rd (C). That is why a G-string tuner reading can look "wrong" — it is supposed to be G4, not G3.
